Introduction

I graduated from University in Germany with a Bachelor of Economics in 2005. Before joining Progressive, my understanding of recruitment was very limited. However, I knew a thing or two about Sales and was sure it was the career path I wanted to follow. I looked into a few different things and eventually got in touch with a Rec2Rec Company. They sold the dream of recruitment to me! I ended up interviewing with a range of recruitment companies but Progressive stood out right from the start. They were the complete package: full of ambitious people, fantastic working environment and the opportunity to make money and grow your career at the same time. Of course, back then the German business was fairly small. There was a great start-up feeling, like we were all in it together! Being part of growing a business was really exciting!

My role

Since I first joined the company, I’ve worked in different markets, in different industries, in different parts of the world. I saw the highs and lows of the industry from day one – it’s a rollercoaster. I didn’t let it faze me though. I started in contract recruitment and grew a big contractor book in a short period of time. I was promoted to Senior Consultant within my first year. It was great. I won incentive trips to New York and Barcelona, earnt amazing pay cheques and I was learning every day. We had a great team there. Two years into the job, I started managing the contract team in Munich!

In 2010, I moved to Australia and had the opportunity to set up the first Mining Team for SThree. This was my biggest challenge and my biggest achievement so far. The Mining sector was a “One (Wo)man Show” for the first eight months. The market needed to be built from scratch. I had to learn the ins and outs of the industry and recruit in a different language. It was hard work – but so worth it. Just 18 months later, Mining had an impressive team, was getting great results and had fantastic prospects.

When I first joined, my manager told me: “This job is simple, but not easy”. There are always going to be difficult times. You need to see the bigger picture to master the challenges. Look for a solution, not the problem. Be proud of what you do and work as a team – in good times and bad!

There are great career opportunities here and you’re always rewarded for your hard work and results. It’s a real meritocracy. This means there will always be a bigger job around the corner if you do well. SThree won’t hire the next manager – you can be the next manager.

Training

Training at SThree is the best you can get in this industry. And it’s not just classroom teaching either. There’s everything from online learning, multimedia and on-the-job coaching. We also have a really good mentor and buddy system that allows everyone to learn from their peers. The Learning and Development courses never end. They continue at every stage of your career, no matter if you’re a trainee or a manager.

Working at SThree

Everyone works really hard for their results during the week but we sure know how to celebrate our success. There’s a really supportive team environment in every office. Certainly each one I’ve worked in. I’m proud to say that I love coming into work every morning. How many people can say that?

Good results are not only rewarded through our commission structure – but through a variety of incentives. I’ve been on an all-expenses-paid trip to New York with the Top Sales people of the company. That was amazing. I’ve been on Club Lunches with the office and been to Christmas parties in London and Singapore. I feel like I’m forgetting some, there’s been so many. Oh, yes…my company car was a MINI Sport.

It’s just a really fun environment with a great team. I don’t think you can find anything like it in any other high-performing sales organisation. SThree is not about hire-and-fire.
